Entry from: Fremantle, Australia Entry Title: “Animals and Airplanes” Entry: “Just a short one from Vinny. Not all of us have throw ourselves into such a heavy employment load as my cohort. I’ve been taking it rather easier. A few gardening jobs here and there. One weeding for two old Aussie brothers, who started sucking down Emu Bitter or ‘the local ****’ both days from 8 in the morning and were still going strong when I left at 4, and another job with a friend Pascal for someone who would be best described as a bored housewife, the husband over seas not much to do with her days but to employ backpackers to mow her lawn, arrange the foliage and brush away the cobwebs. We weren’t complaining – she took us out for lunch, bought us beer and wine and gave us two steaks for dinner. I’m still not sure how the Lycra bodysuits she insisted on us wearing gave us protection in the garden though! Two day trips have also been achieved in my two weeks. A trip to the Perth zoo, which I was talked into and was sure I’d hate spending the whole time feeling sorry for the animals, but it was very impressive. Then at the weekend the Red Bull Air Race rolled into to town for the last event of the series. Three hundred thousand people turn out for the fun lining the Swan river at any available view point. Entry from: Cephalonia, Greece Entry Title: “Bit of a road trip and the start of summer!” Entry: “Kalos Minas as they say in Greece as it is the 1st May and Kefalonia is looking it’s finest with the sun shining, beaches clean and empty and flowers everywhere! Unbelievably we have been back for a week already and have settled straight back into the swing of things- therefore making it feel like we never really left! The journey over was long and mainly uneventful. After taking a wrong turn in Dover and nearly ending up on the cargo hold, we made it onto the 9.15am ferry to Calais and then spent about 8 hours driving through France via Reims (sadly not stopping to sup any champagne) and the Alsace region on the German border where we decided to spend the night. Bill felt it his duty to sample the local dish of sauerkraut, a large basket of oniony lettuce topped with boiled gammon and grim looking sausage- sadly no pictures of that. The next day we packed up and drove straight through Switzerland, a really lovely drive especially as there was still snow on the mountains, and straight through into Italy. After about another 8 hours of driving we stopped in the Grand-Prix town of Imola and after stocking up on parmesan, prosecco and plonk we then went for the fourth of the famous Italian ‘P’s at the

Raised Bed Vegetable Garden Late Spring Early Summer Heirloom Tomatoes Squash Cucumber Zucchini

Saturday, June 25th, 2011

I planted all my plants from seed with the help of my children. We put our tomatoes out in April under plastic and they are doing very well. Raised bed gardening is the way to go if you don’t have good soil. We filled our beds with good composted soil and are hoping to have an awesome harvest!!!
